应兰州交通大学数学系和斌博士邀请，内华达大学拉斯维加斯分校李继春教授将于2023年6月19-21日与我系相关师生进行学术研讨，并于6月20日下午举行学术报告，欢迎各位老师和研究生同学参加。

报告题目：Quick introduction to numerical methods for PDEs

报告摘要：In this talk, I'll give a quick introduction to basic numerical methods for solving various Partial Differential Equations (PDEs). This talk is oriented to graduate students and is based on Chapters 1 and 2 from my textbook "COmputational Partial Differential Equations using Matlab" (2nd ed, CRC Press, 2019). To inspire students, I'll first illustrate many interesting PDEs

coming from various applications. Then I'll start with the finite difference method for solving parabolic equations. Some simple algorithms will be introduced and demonstrated with Matlab code. Hopefully this will open the door to interested students who want to pursue further on mathematical analysis and computer simulation with PDEs. This talk also serves a preliminary to my second talk.

专家简介：Jichun Li is Professor of Mathematics and Director for Center for Applied Mathematics and Statistics at University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV). He got his PhD from Florida State University. His previous positions include Postdoc Fellow at University of Texas at Austin, and Associate Director of Institute for Pure and Applied Mathematics (IPAM) at UCLA.

Research areas include analysis of finite element methods, high-order compact difference methods, RBF meshless methods, and applications of PDEs in various areas. He has published over 140 SCI journal papers and 2 monographs (one in the famous Springer Series in Computational Mathematics, vol.43, Springer, 2013). Currently, he serves as Editor-in-Chief of "Results in Applied Mathematics", Managing Editor of "Computers & Mathematics with Applications" (both published by Elsevier).
